Purchase a re-useable oil filter. something like the K&P Engineering unit I use on my motors. It'll run you about $130.00 bucks but, will last forever and flows better than standard filters and filters as good or better than HD spec.
Next, go get some Rev Tech "pure" base oil. This stuff has been hydro cracked and is hydro carbon free. It's almost clear and performs as good as a syn oil for about $4.00 bucks a quart.
Depending on how much you ride and how you ride and where you ride, pull the filter off and clean it with carb cleaner or dish washing soap and water about once a month.
Your engine will love you, your wallet will love you and you will get great oil mileage between changes.
I change oil at 3000 miles which for me, is about three months time.
The initial cash outlay is just slightly more than a dealer visit but after that, your saving bucks big time and your new filter system should pay for itself in a year.
